Helping You Find the Right Dental Coverage in RI
One of the most common questions we get asked about is dental coverage. Nearly half of Americans on Medicare do not have dental insurance. Although many individuals are ok paying cash for dental services, those who prefer to get individual dental insurance ought to be aware of the major options available. In this article, we highlight the common plans we see in RI. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing our updated research on the available options across the country.
Here's our current analysis on individual dental insurance options for RI.
Although there are a number of companies in RI for Dental services, the 2 big players still are Delta Dental and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Prices for their top tier of coverage is nearly identical $56 (Delta) vs $57 (BCBS) for $2000 of coverage. The benefits are also similar. You’ll have 100% coverage for preventative services (basic cleanings/checkup/x-rays), 80% coverage for minor services and 50% for major services.
Delta does have a $50 deductible as well.
To enroll in BCBS, the easiest way is to contact them directly. For Delta, you'll have to go through AAA or AARP. In both cases, if you didn't have dental coverage before, you will have a waiting period of typically 12 months before the insurance will cover major services such as crowns, root canals, etc. However, your routine services (cleanings/checkups) are covered on day 1.
