Commonly Overlooked Issue: Metal Toxicity
Despite many of our efforts to stay healthy, our environment can be filled with substances that are toxic to our bodies. From the air we breathe and the food we eat, we are often exposed to metals which can slowly build up in our bodies over long periods of time.
Heavy metal poisoning can lead to symptoms often confused with other conditions (especially with neurodegenerative disease or dementia). For example, mercury poisoning (often as a result of eating metal-heavy fish) can lead to lack of coordination, nerve damage, vision changes, and trouble walking. Arsenic (in pesticides, water, etc) can lead to heart arrhythmias, skin lesions, or digestive problems. These symptoms can often be confused and result in alternative diagnosis.
Recently, many celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Jeremy Piven, and Tony Robbins have all had scares with heavy metal poisoning leading to life threatening conditions.
Please consult your provider to see if a heavy metals test may be a good precaution to take. For more information, please visit: https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/heavy-metal-poisoning/#:~:text=The%20heavy%20metals%20most%20commonly,ingestion%20of%20lead%2Dbased%20paints
