Can you Keep your plan but add benefits?
“Can I keep my current plan and then enroll in something that includes extra benefits like dental or vision?”
Unfortunately healthcare is not as sensible as we wish. We can’t add and subtract benefits or aspects of a plan even if it’s the best solution for the individual.
Let's say you're on a Medicare Supplemental plan and you don't have any dental or vision coverage. If you want to purchase a plan that covers dental and vision, you can purchase an independent dental or vision plan, however if you want to purchase a Medicare Advantage plan which oftentimes includes prescription coverage and sometimes dental, vision, gym membership or hearing aids rolled into an all-in-one plan, unfortunately you have to choose. In those situations, it's an either or.
Meaning you have two options:
-
You can stay on your current plan and enroll in the independent dental or vision plan
-OR-
-
You can choose a Medicare Advantage plan that includes the medical the prescription and everything else
The takeaway here is that you cannot be enrolled in a Supplemental and Advantage plan at the same time. If you need help figuring out which one is the best fit based on your needs, you can always reach out to Doctor’s Choice for guidance. Also keep in mind that if things in your life changed since last year and you are now going to the gym more often or need more routine eye care, exploring other options is a good idea.
